In this week’s class, I used an overhead LCD projector to show how to format your book using Microsoft Word. I showed how to add and change page numbers, how to create and apply styles to your text, the difference between serif and sans-serif fonts and what they’re both used for, and I showed the class a book template for a 6″x9″ book.
This Word template is available here:
After downloading this compressed document to your computer, open the folder and you’ll see the the “Book Template” file. Don’t just open the file immediately. You’ll need to drag the file out of the folder onto your desktop (or some other folder) which will uncompress the file. Otherwise, if you simply open it as-is, you won’t be able to save any changes to it. If you’re having trouble saving your changes to the file, that’s why. Another option is to simply go to the File menu and choose “Save As…” and save the file to a new location such as on your desktop.
Lulu.com has document templates for each of their book sizes available for either Microsoft Word or OpenOffice.
